In the 1960s, an army deserter makes his way to a small village, where he craftily works his way into the position of a youth baseball coach.
Qi-ming Lin, Hongye Youth Baseball Team pitcher, pretends to be champion coach Qi-sheng Hong and meets Xiao-wu, a girl who's also on her way to Jichi.
Xiao-wu has doubts about Qi-ming. The impostor coach lets the children do whatever they like. Xiao-wu finally tells grandpa why she comes to Jichi.
Qi-ming has not given up the idea of running away. Bu-wa tells him of the job opportunity at school. Qi-ming, out of options, decides to stay.
Qi-ming has no interest in coaching, so idles around. The principal wants to disband the baseball team. Bu-wa sadly leaves and Xiao-wu blames Qi-ming.
Qi-ming tries to convince Bu-wa. Everyone pitches in to raise funds for the team. Qi-ming discovers the truth behind the fundraising and feels bad.
Qi-ming escapes from Jichi but thinks of the children and his promise to grandpa. He finally shows up as the game draws to a close.
Qi-ming drafts a training plan and manages the team strictly. Xiao-wu questions Qi-ming. Grandpa misunderstands Xiao-wu and Qi-ming, and faints.
Qi-ming trains the team rigorously. Bu-wa argues with Qi-ming and breaks the baseball bat. Bu-wa leaves; Qi-ming tries to fix the bat.
The kids' parents oppose and scold Qi-ming. Grandpa's camera is stolen and Qi-ming is under suspicion. Bu-wa forbids Qi-ming staying on as coach.
Xiao-wu questions Qi-ming's indecisiveness. Qi-ming explains where money for the bat came from. Grandpa finds the camera he thought had been stolen.
Xiao-wu is sad leaving Jichi; Grandpa tries to hide his emotions. Qi-ming establishes the Jichi Baseball Team but meets with strong opposition.
By chance, Xiao-jie joins the baseball team. Qi-ming and Wei-ting take the children to visit Xiao-jie. A-su sadly runs away to find his mother.
Qi-ming runs after A-su and tries to advise him. Xiao-wu brings her parents to Jichi. Her father begs for Grandpa's forgiveness and faces a dilemma.
Xiao-wu's father informs the villagers of his decision; Grandpa forgives him. Nana is sold by her father to human traffickers, and disappears.
To bring Nana back, Fu-mei sets out to find the traffickers. Everyone goes to the hospital to visit Xiao-jie. A-su's father has an accident.
Qi-ming is stopped by military police for inspection. Qi-ming takes the opportunity to visit his parents. The military police show up at his home.
Qi-ming has his reasons for not surrendering himself. He takes the children to apologize and pick up the balls. Wei-ting and Qi-ming quiz each other.
Xiao-wu is happy to see Xiao-mai, but she has Qi-ming in her heart. The team can't forgive Qi-ming for hiding his past. Qi-sheng's wife shows up.
Qi-ming tells the truth about Qi-sheng. After the game between Guangfu Elementary and their rival, Qi-ming is taken to prison. Bu-wa is vindictive.
Qi-ming secretly attends Xiao-wu's graduation ceremony. Wei-ting meets Qi-ming in the cafeteria. Qi-ming returns to Jichi to fulfill his dreams.
Qi-ming encounters young gangsters when he arrives Jichi, and is shocked and regretful. He has mixed feelings with all the changes he sees in people.
Qi-ming and the team restart their baseball dream but Lala and Bu-wa are unforgiving. Wei-ting is rebuked by the principal for helping Qi-ming.
The Wujia High coach agrees to hold a game once Qi-ming forms a team. Mrs. Fu sadly asks Lala to leave. The team members no longer wish to play.
Bu-wa warns Qi-ming. Er-mao argues with his dad. Wei-ting, irritated, refuses to be Qi-ming's team manager. Mrs. Fu's grocery store is vandalized.
Qi-ming's players don't show up for practice. Er-mao's story is disclosed. Ga-zao doubts Qi-ming's dedication. Dong-chuan volunteers as team manager.
Dong-chuan fails to get the players back to the game. Mrs. Fu is heartbroken over Lala's departure. Er-mao and his dad have a change of heart.
Lala commits a terrible crime for Nana's sake. A-su blames himself for this. Xiao-wu tells Qi-ming she's going abroad and stimulates his self-esteem.
Qi-ming raises funding for the team; he and A-su help each other out. Lala and Nana face difficulties. Everyone comes to see Lala off.
Mrs. Fu tries to keep Lala from going away. Xiao-wu seeks Bu-wa's forgiveness to no avail. Er-mao says something that causes a misunderstanding.
A-su is deceived and Qi-ming is forced to confess. All are worried about Qi-ming but he doesn't want to run away. Wei-ting pleads with the principal.
Bu-wa wants to disband the team. A-rong and dad both try to take the blame; Dad makes a decision. Qi-ming and Bu-wa make up, but gloves are burned.
Qi-ming struggles inside and decides to leave Jichi. Bu-wa blames himself for his brother. Qi-ming's returning to Jiayi makes Qi-yi very happy.
Qi-ming works hard and makes good use of his income. Fu-mei returns to Jichi after years. Xiao-wu brings the baseballs and gloves gifted by Qi-ming.
Xiao-wu prepares to go abroad. The team trains according to Qi-ming's journal instructions. Fu-mei insults Bu-wa who is disappointed and sad.
Bu-wa decides to clear thing up with Fu-mei. Qi-ming studies game tactics in his free time. Lala believes fundraising is everyone's responsibility.
Lala learns the truth of the murder from Qi-ming. Mrs. Fu is ecstatic with Lala's return to Jichi. The team is now complete and practices incessantly.
Lala is determined to stay and explains to others why Qi-ming left. A-su finally realizes the truth and teaches Lala how to pitch.
Qi-ming, downhearted, finally returns. Lala helps Nana out of a difficult spot. Qi-ming makes new uniforms; A-yuan will never be able to wear his.
Wei-ting plans to transfer to a remote campus. A-bin wants to excel in both study and sports. Qi-ming gives Xiao-wu his blessings. The game is on.
Jichi Baseball Team wins by a whisker. Nana tells Lala of her decision. Qi-ming coaches at a remote school and runs into an old friend.
